Chris Brown and Nicki Minaj are the first artists confirmed to perform at the upcoming BET Awards '12, which will be hosted by Samuel Jackson, and Kayne West leads the pack among nominees with seven awards nominations.

The announcements came Tuesday during a press conference in New York City where Maze featuring Frankie Beverly was announced as the Cadillac Lifetime Achievement Award recipient. Beverly was on hand to thank everyone for the honor.


Melanie Fiona, Big Sean and A$AP Rocky, who are all up for awards, arrived on stage later to reveal this year's nominees. Nominees Astro, Diggy Simmons and Mindless Behavior were also at BET's studios for the special press conference.

As mentioned, Kanye West's leads with seven nominations, five shared with Jay-Z, who together as The Throne are up for Best Group, Best Collaboration, Coca-Cola Viewers Choice and Video of the Year for "Ni**as in Paris" and "Otis."






Beyonce reeled in six nominations, including Best Female R&B Artist, Best Collaboration and Coca-Cola Viewers Choice. Like her husband, Jay, she has two nods for Video of the Year. Visuals for "Countdown" and "Love on Top" are both nominated.

The BET Awards '12 will take place at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles on Sunday, July 1 at 8 p.m. ET and will air on BET. In 2013, the ceremony will be held at Nokia Theatre in L.A.
