According To GateCrasher: A source close to Kanye West tells us the hip-hop artist, who’s known for his deadline-pushing ways, has yet to shoot a scene for the 30-minute film he’s supposed to debut next month in Cannes, France.

“He hasn’t even started the film yet,” says the source, who notes that West is “producing, writing, scoring and directing” the top-secret project, which is “a thriller” and will probably star fellow musical artist Kid Cudi.

Despite this little footnote, the insider says West is still moving forward with plans to show the mini-movie - which won’t be part of the festival’s program - on the Croisette.

“He’s going all out,” says the source, who adds that West intends to “make a spectacle” for the jaded international crowd.

To that end, West is in the process of leasing an outdoor space that will be big enough for the mercurial rapper to project the film on seven screens and presumably still have room for his énorme ego.

If West is going to show his work to the Cannes crowd, he needs to get cracking. The festival begins on May 16 and runs through May 27.

The insider claims that those working on the mysterious film project with West aren’t too worried about finishing the picture in time for the festival.

“That's just the way Kanye does things,” says the source. “He is already talking to the right people to make sure it happens with short notice.”

The source adds that the fact that West is doing his little home movie project independent of the Cannes festival takes the pressure off as well,

Indeed, had West wanted to be considered for the movie-palooza, he would have had to submit his film by Feb. 24.

In February, the NY Observer reported that West had sent representatives to meet with flim companies and government officials in Abu Dhabi, Dubai and Doha Qatar to scout locations and discuss production for a short film he was working on that was similar in form to his 30-minute 2010 music video, “Runaway,” which starred Selita E. Banks.

According to that report, filming was set to begin in March.

That said, West is known for his last minute approach to ambitious projects.

When he showed his second fashion line in Paris in March, critics lambasted the looks as sub-par for the French fashion capital.

Although fashionistas noted that tailoring in West’s Dw line had improved since his debut show in October 2011, the designs still needed work.

There were also reports that West waited until the last minute to hire models to walk in his first show.
