08. LMFAO - Sorry For Party Rocking

Sorry For Party Rocking is the second full-length studio album by LMFAO. It was released June 21, 2011 physically and digitally by Interscope Records. The album debuted at number 12 on the Billboard 200 with 27,100 copies sold in its first week. "Party Rock Anthem" was the first single released from the album and was an international hit. The second single was "Champagne Showers" and peaked top ten in Australia and New Zealand. The third single, "Sexy and I Know It" was released on September 16, 2011. It has so far peaked #2 on the US Billboard Hot 100 and #1 in Australia and Canada.

Sorry For Party Rocking has received mixed to negative reviews from music critics. The album currently holds a score of 47 out of 100 on Metacritic. Josh Bush from Allmusic gave it a favorable review, awarding it three and a half out of five stars. He said "Although the duo LMFAO boasted Euro-pop synths and unmissable riffs well before their hit with David Guetta, "Gettin' Over You," it definitely didn't hurt to be featured on a world-wide smash that spent quality time at number one in France and the U.K. Their second album, Sorry for Party Rocking, arrives at exactly the right time and includes exactly the right mix of energy and humor, plus a surprising amount of sincerity." They highlighted "Sorry for Party Rocking", "Party Rock Anthem" and "Champagne Showers".
Billboard had said prior to the promotion "LMFAO is, of course, not "Sorry for Party Rocking." But the dance duo's sophomore album is "more refined" and more experimental than its 2009 debut, "Party Rock."

Slant Magazine's Matthew Cole found Khalifa's lyrics "boring" and stated, "he seems to regress to the tepid sing-song rapping that the music demands". Julian Benbow of The Boston Globe called it "the safest album possible, a collection of radio-accessible singles and one homer". Sputnikmusic's Sobhi Abdul-Rakhman gave it one-and-a-half out of five stars and panned it as "overproduced, generic disney channel beats by names no one knows, derivative choruses and melodies that obviously sound manufactured by a tie-wielding Atlantic executive, and lyricism that fails at even being anthemic for parties".Jesse Serwer of The Village Voice criticized the tracks with "beats even more pop than 'Black & Yellow'", adding that "Wiz has grown into a more skillful hookmeister than rapper".

Production for the album took place during 2010 to 2011 and was handled by Noah "40" Shebib, Boi-1da, T-Minus, Just Blaze, The Weeknd, and Jamie Fxx, among others. With the album, Drake sought to record a more cohesive recording than his debut album, which he viewed was rushed in its development.
Expanding on the sonic aesthetic of his debut album, Take Care features an atmospheric sound that is characterized by low-key musical elements and incorporates R&B, pop, and electronica styles. Drake's lyrics mostly eschew boastful raps for introspective lyrics that deal with topics such as failed romances, relationship with friends and family, growing wealth and fame, concerns about leading a hollow life, and despondency. The album has been noted by music writers for its minimalist R&B elements, existential subject matter, conflicted lyrics, and Drake's alternately sung and rapped vocals.

Take Care received general acclaim from music critics. At Metacritic, which assigns a normalized rating out of 100 to reviews from mainstream critics, the album received an average score of 81, based on 29 reviews, which indicates "universal acclaim". Rolling Stone writer Jon Dolan complimented its "luxe, expansive production" and stated, "Drake stretches out over languid, austerely plush tracks that blur hip-hop, R&B and downtempo dance music."Nitsuh Abebe of New York wrote that the album "is full of gorgeous tones: atmospheric, moody, muted music that can turn suddenly gushing and lavish. And the lyrics surrounding them can be rich with meaning". Slant Magazine's Matthew Cole called it "remarkably consistent" and noted an "immeasurably improved flow" by Drake. Brandon Soderberg of Spin called the album "an insular, indulgent, sad-sack hip-hop epic" and commended Drake for "mixing nice-guy vulnerability with wounded narcissism", commenting that he "finds ways turn the douche chills he elicits into a large part of his appeal." Pitchfork Media's Ryan Dombal found Drake's "technical abilities" to be improved and stated, "Just as his thematic concerns have become richer, so has the music backing them up."Chicago Tribune writer Greg Kot complimented the depth of Drake's "moral psychodramas" and stated, "the best of it affirms that Drake is shaping a pop persona with staying power."

02. Chris Brown - F.A.M.E. ( Forgiving All My Enemies)

F.A.M.E. is the fourth studio album by American recording artist Chris Brown, first released on March 18, 2011 by Jive Records. Brown worked with several record producers and songwriters for the album, including Kevin McCall, Jean Baptiste, Brian Kennedy, DJ Frank E, The Underdogs and The Messengers, among others. The album featured several guest appearances, including McCall, Tyga, Lil Wayne, Busta Rhymes, Ludacris, Justin Bieber, Benny Benassi, Wiz Khalifa, Game, Timbaland and Big Sean.

F.A.M.E. received generally mixed reviews from music critics. At Metacritic, which assigns a normalized rating out of 100 to reviews from mainstream critics, the album received an average score of 52, based on 16 reviews, which indicates "mixed or average reviews". Andy Gill of The Independent called F.A.M.E. "equal parts bubblebath boudoir soul and more bullish beat-driven floor-fillers", criticizing its content regarding "paranoia, reproach and bogus regret, along with the standard 'aspirational' bragging about money and sex". Los Angeles Times writer Margaret Wappler gave it two-and-a-half out of four stars and commented that it "feels strained and sometimes downright desperate", stating "the album leaves not an impression of one singular style but of the great effort required to mix and match so many times". The Observer's Ally Carnwath wrote that Brown "still sounds hamstrung by a fear of trying anything too edgy". Evan Rytlewski of The A.V. Club wrote favorably of the album's "effervescent slow jams and up-tempo R&B struts", but criticized its "oversold ballads". Jon Caramanica of The New York Times wrote unfavorably of Brown's performance and stated "Mostly, he has a really charmless way with a lyric". The Boston Globe's Sarah Rodman commented that "only a handful of tracks truly showcase Brown’s strengths" and criticized his singing "crudely about sex, emptily about partying, and lazily about romance". David Amidon of PopMatters found Brown's vocal "apathetic" and panned the songs as "childish and trite".

01. Jay Z & Kanye West - Watch The Throne

Watch The Throne is  a collaborative studio album by American rappers Jay-Z and Kanye West, released on August 8, 2011, by Roc-A-Fella Records, Roc Nation, and Def Jam Recordings. Recording sessions for the album took place at various recording locations and began in November 2010. It was produced by West, 88 Keys, RZA, Swizz Beatz, Jeff Bhasker, and Mike Dean, among others. Expanding on the dense production style of West's 2010 album My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, Watch the Throne incorporates orchestral and progressive rock influences, unconventional samples, and dramatic melodies in its sound. Jay-Z and West's braggadocio lyrics on the album exhibit themes of opulence, fame, materialism, power, and the burdens of success, as well as political and socioeconomic context.
The album debuted at number one on the US Billboard 200 chart, selling 436,000 copies its first week. It produced five singles, including the international hit "Otis" and Billboard hits "H•A•M" and "Niggas in Paris". Upon its release, Watch the Throne received generally positive reviews from music critics, who commended its production and the rappers' performances, although some criticized the subject matter and the album's cohesiveness. It was one of the top-ranked albums in year-end lists by critics and publications. Jay-Z and West are currently promoting the album with a concert tour that spans October to December 2011. The album has been certified platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America and, as of December 2011, has sold 1,166,000 copies in the United States.

Watch the Throne received generally positive reviews from music critics. At Metacritic, which assigns a weighted mean rating out of 100 to reviews from mainstream critics, the album received an average score of 76, based on 42 reviews, which indicates "generally favorable reviews". Steve Jones of USA Today praised the rappers' "chemistry" and wrote that it "allows each to carve out his own stylistic space, with Jay-Z coolly delivering his incisive lyrical darts, while the more emotional West thrives on adrenaline-fueled punchlines." Nathan Rabin of The A.V. Club commented that "exhilarating messiness and go-for-broke spontaneity infect Jay-Z and push him outside his comfort zone and into a realm of intense emotional reflection." Alexis Petridis of The Guardian stated, "If [it]'s musical direction seems like West's work, it's worth noting that Jay-Z has the better lyrics." Pitchfork Media's Tom Breihan commented that the album "works best when Jay and Kanye are just talking about how great they are," adding that "Kanye is this album's obvious guiding force. [...] He displays levels of unequaled audacity."Claire Suddath of Time complimented the lyrics' social commentary and "opulence," calling it "a beautifully decadent album by two of hip-hop's finest artists — men with a lot of things to say and a lot of money to spend." Neil McCormick of The Daily Telegraph praised West's "attention to detail" and found their "wit and absurdity [...] entirely suited to the epic scale of productions." Kitty Empire of The Observer stated, "Some find this sort of branded gloating distasteful, but at their best both rappers can still make you laugh.
